Yankee Jim’s National Park Toll Road and the Yellowstone Trail
First published in 1989, Doris Whithorn’s 60-page book was reprinted in 2008. Slightly abridged, an index was added at that time. It includes many black and white photos.
This book is full of colorful stories about a character whose name lives on in the form of Yankee Jim Canyon. This canyon, at the southern end of Paradise Valley, Montana, is a narrow route that river and road (and once the Northern Pacific Railway), thread through.
Photos and stories are included about the c. 1915 Yellowstone Trail–a transcontinental northern automobile route that led independent travelers from Plymouth Rock to Puget Sound–all the way to Yellowstone National Park.
