Emigrant Gulch: Searching for Gold in Park County, MT

Another Doris Whithorn book, published by Arcadia Publishing as part of their Images of America series. 128 pages. An index is included.

Doris, our museum matriarch, was interested in many topics but one of her most keen interests was mining. Park County has much mining history to explore and this is what she has done in this book with nearly 200 historic photos (taken by her husband Bill) and in-depth captions.

In 1864, the first settlers of this area staked claims at the foot of Emigrant Gulch in Paradise Valley, south of Livingston. Yellowstone City, Old Chico, Schools and Cemeteries, Placer Gold, Lode Mining, and the St. Julien Mine are some of the topics covered in the well-researched book.
