Calamity’s in Town: the Town Was Livingston, Montana
Published in 1977, this book by Bill and Doris Whithorn has 48 pages and 16 black and white photographs. An index is included.
The book contains a collection of newspaper articles, photographs, and extended captions about one of Livingston’s well-known characters, Calamity Jane. From her first appearance in Livingston newspapers in March 1884 until her death in August 1903, readers are reminded of her journeys and travails.
“Nothing of Calamity Jane remains in Livingston or the little towns of the Upper Yellowstone country…. Halos may be hung on a memory, but in Livingston the record of Calamity Jane is down in the black and white of newsprint.”–quote from end of book.
